Mercedes-Benz C300 AMG Line, the charm remains undiminished!
When testing this car, Mercedes-Benz has released a new generation of W206 models worldwide, and the Mercedes-Benz C300 AMG Line that we borrowed was updated again in December last year and has been available in my country for 7 years. Of the W205 model. In the face of rivals at the same level that have already undergone major changes, can this German executive RV still stand up?
shape:
The updated version of C300 AMG Line launched by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia in December last year is actually mainly to replace the original Airmatic air electronic suspension with the same Sports ordinary sports suspension as the C200, so there is actually no difference in appearance, and we can still do it. See the sporty AMG package, with 19-inch AMG five-spoke two-color wheels, and the Multibeam LED with active far and low beam function and the editor's favorite panoramic sunroof are also retained.
Interior:
In terms of interior decoration, the improved version of the C300 AMG Line also continues the original AMG Line interior. In addition to the beautiful AMG three-spoke sports steering wheel and black ash veneer, our test drive also uses a small editor. Personally prefer brown leather seats. In addition to brown, buyers of C300 can also choose red or black leather colors. It is worth mentioning that the leather of this leather seat is quite good, soft and supportive, and it will not be hot after exposure.
Although it has been launched for many years, Mercedes has introduced a full LCD dashboard and a larger floating host screen for the small facelift C-Class launched in 2018, but this screen is not like the new generation Mercedes car version. With touch screen function and the interface is relatively old design, this is a bit confusing for the editor, because the small change GLC Coupe I tried before has imported the same latest MBUX system as A-Class. But the Sedan version of C-300 does not? But fortunately, this sports touring car still has the Mercedes Me function. . .
power:
The C300 AMG Line is equipped with a 2.0L twin-scroll turbocharged engine code-named M264, which can produce a maximum horsepower of 255 Hp and a peak torque of 370 Nm. As for the gearbox, it was replaced in the 2018 minor facelift. The latest 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission, with this combination, 0-100 acceleration only takes 5.9 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 250 km/h.
I didn’t calculate whether there is 5.9 seconds, but this group of power systems can be used to describe this not light-weight RV easily. It is obvious that the power is very abundant, but the only thing I don’t like is that I don’t like it. The reaction and logic of this 9-speed automatic transmission will be a bit unable to catch the rhythm at a certain time, and it will not be able to downshift/upshift in time, which is a bit of a fly in the ointment. However, there is an advantage to upgrading from the original 7-speed automatic transmission to a 9-speed, that is, the engine basically maintains a low-revolution state during daily driving, which is helpful for fuel consumption performance.
Manipulation:
In terms of control, the editor himself has actually experienced the C300 with Airmatic air suspension during the test drive of the small modified C-Class in 2018. At that time, he was aware of its stable and sensitive design on the mountain road to Cameron. I am sure to leave a deep impression, and I was very satisfied with its handling at the time; and after the price cut this time and replaced with traditional damping, the first difference that I can feel most is that the suspension of the whole car has become softer. The amplitude of the swing can be felt more pronounced when cornering at a slow speed.
Does this mean that the handling has deteriorated? In fact, it is not entirely because when driving at high speeds, the car is still very stable, and even in some cases, the editor can feel a touch of "liveness" when cornering, but it is more fun. Of course, there is definitely a roll aspect, but in this aspect, this car is still biased towards sports, so in fact, without the Airmatic, the C300's handling performance has not been affected too much.
Comfort:
The point is that the C300 AMG Line has become more comfortable due to the obvious softening of the damping setting. The Airmatic version developed by the editor two years ago, when driving on general roads, the road feel is very obvious, and even a bit too hard. The phrase ordinary people say is "too jumping." And this time, using the C300 with ordinary suspension can filter the shock caused by bad roads. The overall comfort can be said to have improved a lot. Not to mention the passengers, even as a driver, I enjoy this very much. Comfort, this is something I never thought of! And it can maintain a certain degree of control performance, and the overall performance is more balanced.
safety:
In addition to the basic safety system, my country's C300 AMG Line also has side blind spot detection, automatic emergency braking, lane maintenance assist, 360-degree panoramic camera assist system, and Parktronic parking assist system. I can't say whether it is rich or not. It is a little rich in terms of luxury brands, but if compared with the current B-segment / C-segment civilian car models. . . . .
Summarize:
The new generation of W206 has been released, so is the C300 AMG Line of W205 worth buying? In fact, for the editor, although the current C300 is considered to be old, it is not outdated in terms of vision and opening; its skill is still sharp, and the focus is on both appearance and (especially !) In terms of interior design, even if it is placed next to the major opponents that have undergone major changes, do you think it will lose? I personally think it won’t. It even looks more fancy and beautiful than its opponents!
Do not believe? Try to ask friends (especially girls) who don't understand cars around, which one is more beautiful than other rivals? The editor is pretty sure that most of them will choose W205. In addition to the more refined interior of the C300 AMG Line, there is also a better audio system. For those executive buyers who don’t care about driving/handling, the C300 seems to be a better choice, and this time it has changed. It's more comfortable!
